What PlayStation 2 game do you want to play on PlayStation 4?

Well then, it looks like the PlayStation 4 can and will be playing PlayStation 2 games at some point in the future. It already supports a selection of Star Wars games that, I’m sorry to say, aren’t exactly the highlight of the PlayStation 2’s massive library.
That doesn’t mean there isn’t a wealth of PlayStation 2 games that can still be enjoyed today! The best selling console of all time hit the record books for a reason, and that’s because it was able to please a large variety of gamers with a healthy offering of genres.

My guess is that Sony is going to be suffering through the same bureaucratic nightmare thatMicrosoft has with making Xbox 360 games backwards compatible on the Xbox One. The trademark of Twisted Metal: Black for the PlayStation 4 also leads me to believe that PS2 Classics on the PlayStation 3 won’t be simply transferable to a new console, much like theVirtual Console from the Wii to the Wii U. These are similarly going to trickle out over a long period of time, and who knows what the price tag will be?
But let’s think happy thoughts! What is the one game you want to play the most on the PlayStation 4 with its enhanced emulation? Let us know in the comments section below!
For me, it’s an easy choice. I have three PlayStation 2 games I’ve been meaning to go back and play, but their publishers have already given me reasons not to worry about two of them. Dark Cloud 2′s trademark was leaked alongside Twisted Metal: Black’s, and I don’t think we’ll have to wait too long to see that. And Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King will be released for the Nintendo 3DS, so that’s probably going to be the one I play since I can take it on the train.
That just leaves us with my one and final choice: Final Fantasy XII. It’s kind of simple as to why. This is the only Final Fantasy game that is not available through digital channels, and it’s the only Final Fantasy game that is stuck on its original console. To play it, you still need a disc and a working PlayStation 2, which is hard to find given exactly how fragile the console is.
Or, you can drop $500 on a backwards compatible 60GB PlayStation 3… no thanks.
Final Fantasy XII is one of the only Final Fantasy games I haven’t beaten, and the PlayStation 2’s weak sauce hardware is also notorious for limiting what its resources can put out. Those who have unofficially emulated it know that this game looks great in HD, and hopefully Sony’s official emulation can do it similar justice.
The only thing holding it back, really, is Square Enix’s tendency to ignore cheap classic re-releases, especially with Final Fantasy. Why charge $9.99 for a PS2 Classic when you can charge $39.99 for an HD remaster? Rumors have been circulating about an HD Final Fantasy XII for a while, but nothing has been confirmed. Either way, I think we’ll finally be seeing playable on modern consoles within the next year or two.
Just an added thought as well, but a Final Fantasy XII HD Remaster would probably also be playable on the PS Vita, which I think I would prefer.
